Your Title Does Not Define Your Worth
by Stefania Johnson aka Ste’Fire
Have you ever been in a room, a meeting, a function and start thinking, hmmm, that is the VP or Senior Level Manager, I must be careful what I say or do. You shrink yourself in that room, you lower your voice, you hush your thoughts, you hope they see your worth but not see you. I had an employee that would always say to me, I’m just an assistant manager and they are all VP’s, “just” is a description that you put upon yourself. There is no “just” in anything you do or are, in any forum. Never shrink your worth due to your audience, you must stand tall and be confident in who you are, what you bring to the table, your worth! Treat and speak to others as you would, do not focus on titles, that is merely an organizational description of an individual who climbed the chain, whether it was with experience or not. So many mistake titles being someone who looks down on you, who thinks you unworthy of the same respect they receive. No ma’am, No sir! Titles mean nothing when you strip them from a name, they are merely a name, a person, just like you. Be confident in who you are to speak loudly in a room of people who use their titles as some form of intimidation or you perceive it as such. When you walk into a room, 1st impression is everything, bring to the table confidence, wisdom, experience, trust, respect, and discipline, bring your magic, your worth! Hold your head up, not nose up, bring those shoulders up, don’t slouch, show you are confident being in a room that you are meant to be in. I tell my team all the time, never talk about titles of who’s in a room because you are worthy of the floor when you speak and act accordingly, they believe you are just like them, they will never look down on you or perceive you to be unworthy of your place in the room or at the table. Your title does NOT define your worth! Your worth is defined by who you are, how you walk into a room of people, how you treat people, how you respond to people, how you bring your knowledge and experiences and share yourself with those in the room. Never discount your worth, never perceive those in the room will look down on you because of your title. You are a person of value, you are a person of strength, you are a person of substance, you are defined by how you carry yourself!! Once again, Your title DOES NOT define Your Worth! Now walk into that room and know your worth!
