BLACK MAFIA FAMILY (BMF) (The epitome of organized crime)
By Doris AC Johnson MA of PSY, ABA

I do not and am not glorifying the selling of drugs, but what kind of blogger would I be if I did not live in my truth? I have dated drug dealers. When I was in my upper teens…it was fashionable. I grew up during the birth of the crack era. If you are not lying somewhere comatose or under a rock, then you have heard of The Flenory brothers…brief recap. Demetrius (Big Meech) and Terry (Southwest T) stirred up an empire of young men determined to be something bigger than they were. Hailing from one of the most impoverished communities in the city of Detroit, they were determined to plant their feet onto the red carpet of organized crime. This may be harsh to say, but it is what it is. They wanted more. And their way of getting it may not lay parallel to the dreams of others. They started a movement. And did things how they did things. Don’t blanket their truth. Maybe the bread they were cut was from a different bakery.
Eventually, the “empire” they were building collapsed but with much recognition. And many may not accept these things, but they are held in high esteem by many.
Honestly, I have read many articles about BMF. I read books. I saw documentaries. While some of the same people are up in arms about the way the lives of the Flenory brothers are depicted, many of you were sitting in the front seat of movie theatres to see New Jack City which is based on the Chamber Brothers. Let me recap! The Chambers brothers is another tale of rags to riches based out of Detroit in the 1980s. Bravo! Encore! Is what I heard in the theatres.
People who do bad or make decisions that others do not agree with are not necessarily bad people. Everyone has a river to cross and some of us must swim upstream to find ours.
I know one thing…Meech was a humanitarian in his right.
And it is the gift that keeps on giving because the series although dramatic effects have been added is based on true events. It has employed many people. And for so many, their roles will be their gateway into the industry. In other words, dreams are coming true. If the opportunity is in reach…it is your responsibility to approach it. I personally have not met them although we are from the same city. I am not here to represent them. I am here to address all the opposing thumbs in the room. You talk your stuff, but I am sure you are the first one to tune in each weekend. No one has the right to blanket a person’s history.
The point is this…every story has the right to be told whether it is born from a situation or circumstance that listeners and readers are opposed to. Here is my advice…don’t listen…don’t look. You have that option. Don’t be a spectator if you are not interested. I am not on anyone’s side, but I know whose side I am on NOTTTT. And I will leave that right there. I already know that as my fingers stroke the keyboard of my laptop, that this blog will be at the head of me making some new friends and some new enemies…I’m cool with that. Take and number and get to the back of the line. And I say this respectfully. You have the right to have several seats and the first one will be pulled out for you.
