Domestic Violence: It’s Everyone’s Problem

This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and as we all have witnessed throughout history, sadly, this is a topic that is well known to many, so many so that on average 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Yes, domestic violence covers a whole gambit of violence to a partner. The extent of this is, the trauma not only covers the person being abused but the children who are watching, listening, and being impacted by it as well. This subject can be minimized by some but the impacts are far greater and the arrested development caused by it, far outweighs anything you can imagine, as to some, it has long-lasting effects if not dealt with accordingly. On Sunday, October 24th at 2 pm est, The Sistahship is happy to have our special guest from Women’s Resource back, Lauren Peterson, to help us maneuver through this sensitive but yet very important conversation.
