What’s Diversity by Taylor M. Cofer
JTL Middle School she is proud to go to.

When my mom asked me to write a short blog on diversity, my first question was “What is diversity?” After she explained it to me and I read my sister and brother’s blogs on this subject, I was a little clearer, but still a little confused. But, I agreed to do it as long as my grandmother helped me to word this blog so it would make sense to everyone who reads it. She’s a writer and can help me to use diverse words to clearly express my thoughts. I guess you can say diversity comes in many forms. In my family, we are diverse in complexions, but this has never mattered. My friends are diverse in complexions and come from different cultures. So, as you can see, I am already embracing diversity, and it works for me and everyone in my life. I think diversity is a heart word because I feel it in my heart. I also think that anything that comes from the heart is good. At least, that’s what my grandmother always says. I believe that when we appreciate the good things about each other we can become better people. I like diversity because I learn new things from other people, and they learn from me. We have a school bus driver who I think lacks diversity. He is unkind to African American kids on our bus. And always looks grouchy and unhappy. Maybe if he added diversity to his life, he would see that people of color are not all bad. He might even begin to like us and maybe become a lot kinder and happier.
