Second to None
By Doris AC Johnson, MA of Psy, ABA

A side chick is like an extra plate
it’s like dinner before dessert
but there’s no wait
there’s no nagging no insistence
and you can keep your business your business
holidays are the following days
there’s no pressure for this forever and always
you can come in early you can leave late
and there’s no eggshells or walking on crates
she’s at your beck and calling
and there is no love to fall in
and there is always food on the table
and unlike wife one
she’s available and able
pay a light bill
buy some groceries
get cable
and she will be wife two with no label
the new wife is different
less than significant
she’s a deflection from where your feelings went
she needs no glass slipper
she’s fine with kissing a toad
and waking up to a bed that’s cold
eventually, that’s going to get old
she’s perfectly fine with being your mistress and mattress
your acrobat and actress
she will be loyal and not deviate from the plan
Though she’s not your misses
You are her man
Oh no…she’s not cheap
She comes with a price
With you in her life
She gets gravy on her rice
She’s no idiot
She’s not taking crumbs
Like those adoring fans
And the rest of the dumbs dumbs
She wants you to get your affairs in order
Because she is someone’s mother and daughter
She understandable knows the rules
But hopes that if the boat starts to sink
You‘ll get out in pull
All those empty promises covered in trips and jewels
That he’s leaving the old life so for a time, it’s cool
Because secretly she wants her forever to be happy
To lay up, eat junk food, and watch movies that are sappy
Tired of being his chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side
Always a bridesmaid and never a bride
You are alone with company
Stop this foolishness and fuckery
realize and accept you are a crime of opportunity
You don’t have to be second to none
Because somewhere out there you are, someone’s one
